Hospital medicine is based on following hospital protocols. Doctors who deviate from those protocols, no matter how valid a medical reason they may have, risk losing their job and maybe their license to practice medicine.
Imagine if you were a doctor with a hundred thousand dollars of debt from med school and you faced the choice of treating patients with unapproved, but effective, drugs and possibly losing your ability to practice medicine and keeping your license and your job, but the patient risks dying.
What would you do? Do you want your doctor to face this choice?
What if doctors who even spoke about effective treatments or against dangerous experimental vaccines risked getting fired and losing their license? Do you think that that’s better for patients?
